I was able to travel back home to Norway with my children for some time recently. As always I love browsing through the endless amount of photographs in my parents home. Their long marriage continue to fascinate me and sometimes annoy me.
What sort of compromises they have done, their special love and acceptance for one another and that little something that lays the foundation for a long lasting marriage still remains a mystery, at least to a certain extent.
43 years, in thick and thin.
As many of my friends are divorcing and splitting up these days and I find myself single with two kids, it is inspiring to look at these early photographs of my parents. They are now facing aging , illness and major shifts in their lives, but I still think this photo shows the core of their union. This effortlessness, natural state, never making any excuses for being who they are. Never flawless but always true to themselves and each other.
